Jarmer’s Kitchen

At the site that was formerly Plant 13, is the brand new eatery, Jarmer’s Kitchen. The venue has been given a new face lift with a fresh coat of paint, new furniture and potted plants. The floor plan hasn’t changed and there’s still plenty of natural light coming from it’s two frontages. With a casual and family friendly atmosphere, the menu offerings include meat, pasta, salad and seafood dishes.

For lunch, I ordered the Roast Beef French Baguette. My meal came out after a 20 minute wait and was average in presentation. The roast beef was tender and succulent, and a fair amount was provided. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the dijon mustard had a nice creamy consistency that added more balance. The French baguette was nice and crusty, and firm enough to hold all the filling. A very tasty baguette with a good combination of ingredients.

My friend had the Bowden Burger which contained crispy fried onions, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato relish. I was told it wasn’t very good.

Another friend had the Chicken Schnitzel. This would normally come with an Austrian Potato Salad, but my friend wanted a serving of chips instead. The schnitzel was well cooked but very small in size.

When I walked into this place, I was surprised to hear one of the waitresses insulting one of the customers to a fellow co-worker. I don’t think that sort of behaviour is acceptable when you’re in a room full of customers. I also found the staff to be either too inattentive or attentive. They weren’t around when we needed them and were when we didn’t. Other than that, the service was generally good. Drinks arrived promptly and plates were cleared as we finished. The atmosphere was relaxed with the busy lunchtime crowd, and the pricing ranges from average to expensive depending on what you get. The baguette was $10.50 and the burger was $14.50, which were both reasonable. The chicken schnitzel on the other hand was $23.90 which was expensive considering there were two small pieces of schnitzel on an over sized chopping board.
