Edinburgh Hotel & Cellars

The Ed is one of the nicer establishments in Adelaide. The venue is located as the base of the foothills and is considerably spacious with so many different areas. Two of the features it’s known for are its beer garden and premium wine cellar.

I’ve been to the Ed on many occasions, but tonight was the first time I actually had a proper meal here. The menu is modern Australian with Mediterranean and Spanish influences. The traditional pub fare is also available if you’re not feeling too adventurous.

For dinner, I ordered the Smokey Beef Burger. Some of the group members ordered entrees, so the mains arrived shortly after they had finished. The presentation of the dishes varied. Some of the dishes that came out had excellent presentation, while my burger looked rather average. The size of the burger was a lot smaller than I had expected. The beef was tender and juicy, and the thickness of the patty was satisfactory, but the diameter of the patty was the same size as the small bun. The single rasher of bacon was nicely fried. The tomato and lettuce were fresh, while the beetroot and pineapple provided elements of sweetness. The bun was lightly toasted and firm enough to hold all the ingredients. The burger came with smokey barbecue sauce that had a very thin consistency. The chips provided weren’t the most perfect I’ve seen but they were well cooked. They were nice and crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. There was nothing special about this burger.

The following are the dishes the group had. Surprisingly, I didn’t hear any complaints about any of the dishes.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. Drinks were constantly refilled, meals didn’t take too long to arrive, we were asked if were ready for our mains and plates were cleared as we finished. The atmosphere was relaxed, even with a full house. The food here ranges from average to over priced depending on what you get. My Smokey Beef Burger set me back $22.50 which was not worth the price. The burger was very basic and small in size.

Verdict: The burger is basic and over priced.
