Crown & Sceptre

After nearly 2 years, the Crown and Sceptre has re-opened it’s doors. Certain elements within the venue have been retained while other parts have been updated. It’s combination of old and new that still gives this place a relaxed vibe. With this latest reincarnation comes a new menu; a combination of tapas, classic pub dishes and mains. The focus here is on quality produce, as it should be in all places.

For lunch, I ordered the Butcher’s Beef Burger. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented. The beef patty was of a nice thickness and it’s circumference was the same as the bun. The meat, however, was slightly overcooked and very salty. The bacon was cooked well. It was nice and crispy without going overboard. The aged cheddar was nicely melted over the bacon and the beef patty. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and it provided a nice crunchy texture. I can understand how the sweetness of onion jam and the sourness of the pickles were supposed to balance out the saltiness of the beef patty and bacon, however, I still thought the burger was too salty. The chips were well cooked and adequately salted.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is reasonable. The meals range between $9 and $24 with something for just about anyone. The burger set me back $16 which is average in price, however, I’ve had bigger and better tasting burgers at this price range.

Looks like the bun to burger ratio is wrong?

    1. That would be correct! The beef patty was also overcooked.
