Langtang Nepalese Restaurant

I can’t say I know of too many restaurants down Jeffcott Street in North Adelaide, and it was only by chance, I discovered this place as I was driving to another restaurant. Set in historical looking building is Langtang, a restaurant that offers Nepalese cuisine. The decor is modern with a few Nepalese twists. The black table cloths give the place a touch of elegance, while the Buddhist music that plays in the background puts you into a relaxing mood. The menu is fairly simple and straight forward with a selection of classic Nepalese entrees, curries and sides.

For dinner, I ordered the Goat Curry. The meals were ready after a 15 minute wait and the presentation was very good. The mains came with a serve of rice which I thought was a positive. The serving size was generous with plenty of meat in the bowl. The goat was lean and tender, and the flavours were very subtle, almost to the point of being bland. The dish simply had no depth.

My friend ordered a serve of Roti and the Butter Chicken.

The Butter Chicken was slightly better than the Goat Curry, but not by much. The chicken was tender, succulent and well marinated. Once again, the flavours were very subtle and very close to being bland.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was very good. Drinks were constantly refilled, and plates were cleared as we finished. The staff were attentive but not overbearing. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. Most of the mains were under $20 which included rice. My Goat Curry was $18.50 which was fair considering the serving size. It’s just a shame that the curry wasn’t very tasty.
