Fritole by Ma & Me is a pop-up stall at The Market Shed on Holland. In case you don’t know, fritole (or frittelle) are round, yeast risen fried pastries. They can have all sorts of fillings mixed into the dough and can be either sweet or savoury. The menu is fairly basic here with one type of sweet and one type of savoury fritole. The fritoles are $3 each or 3 for $8.

Today, I ordered the Savoury Fritole and was fortunate enough to get one straight out of the deep fryer. The fritole was fried to a dark golden brown until the exterior was nice and firm. The vegetable filling was soft and moist, and it reminded me of a vegetable omelette. The flavours were well balanced although I thought the fritole were a bit oily.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was vibrant with the busy Sunday morning crowds. These fritole are more of a snack than a meal, but an interesting one none the less. Worth checking out if you haven’t tried one before.
