Arab Steed Hotel

The Arab Steed Hotel is located on the corner of Hutt Street and Gilles Street in the South East of the city. The exterior of the building is historical in appearance, however, the internal features are slightly more modernised. Their menu is modern Australian with a lot of the traditional pub fare available.

For lunch, I ordered the Vego Burger. The meal arrived in just under 15 minutes and was nicely presented. The vegetable patty wasn’t one of the usual ones which are lightly grilled on both sides, but a nice thickly crumbed patty that was deep fried. The patty filling was soft and moist, and the spinach was fresh and crisp. The tzatziki sauce gave the burger nice depth, while the Turkish bun was firm and just strong enough to hold all the fillings. The chips were inconsistently cooked. Some were crisp and crunchy, while others were under cooked.

The staff were friendly and the service was average. The atmosphere was relaxed with the venue attracting a more older subdued crowd. The pricing is what you normally pay at pubs, although I came here for their $12 lunches. Even that is a bit more expensive than usual as pubs down the road are offering $10 lunches.

The dining experience here was good, however, I’ve had better vegetarian burgers elsewhere.
