Gelatissimo – Rundle St

During mad March in Adelaide, the Rundle Street precinct is a buzz with people and shops try to capitalise on the influx of people that venture into the city. With the numerous dessert stores along the strip, Gelatissimo is strikingly busy, particularly on a warm night. It’s quick and it’s easy, and people order their ice creams and then go.

Tonight, I ordered the Banana Split. This required a bit of preparation on their part and took a good 15 minutes to get to me. While it’s not rocket science to make this, it did include some of their delicious ice cream flavours. The natural sweetness of the banana worked well with the vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream. The chocolate ice cream had chocolate pieces in it, while the strawberry ice cream had real strawberries. The crushed nuts provided a nice crunchy texture, and it was everything that I had expected it to be.

The staff were friendly and the service was a bit slow. Given there were 30 customers to be served at the time, you could probably forgive them for taking longer than expected. The atmosphere was vibrant and the pricing is on par with other dessert places. The banana split set me back $12.50, but that’s what I’d pay elsewhere.

Not a bad place for a sweet treat to be had on the go.
