Alfonso’s Continental

Alfonso’s Continental is located down the popular Hutt Street precinct and has a reputation for serving up delicious breakfasts. I must say that their other meal options aren’t too shabby either. With pizzas, pastas, risottos and all your other Italian favourites, there really is something for everyone here.

The inside looks deceptively small but you can still fit a couple of dozen people in. The outside, on the other hand, is a bit more spacious with industrial grade shelters fitted with fans and shades. Perfect for a cool Summer evening but not so much when it’s really hot with dry winds.

Tonight, I ordered the Alfonso Burger. The meals arrived after a 15 minute wait and were nicely presented. The beef patty was well marinated, tender and succulent. It was a nice thickness, and although it didn’t have a pinkish tinge in the centre, it was still nicely cooked. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, while the roasted capsicums and caramelised onions gave the burger plenty of depth. The bun was lightly toasted and firm enough to hold all the ingredients.

The other people were quite content with their meals except for the friend who had the Tomato Bruschetta. She felt there could be a bit more garnishing on top and the bread was over toasted.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was below average. We appreciated them letting us move inside because it was too hot, however, the service as a whole was quite slow. Drinks took way too long to arrive, even with very few customers around. Moving inside was a mistake, because the ambience turned from relaxing to one that was rather noisy. The price point here is quite reasonable and on par with similar establishments.

The meal I had was quite enjoyable and well executed. The experience was marred by the service and atmosphere, but ultimately, it was how good the food was, and it was pretty good all round. I would recommend this place to others.
