With street food being all the rage in Adelaide at the moment, it’s no surprise to see a new generically named store, Adelaide Asian Street Food. Located towards the King William Street end of Hindley Street, this store is run by the owners of the Go-In Hot Pot Train that was previously opened across the road. The lines are blurred when it comes to street food at this place because it reads like a typical Asian take away menu. There are a selection of entrees, rice dishes, noodle dishes and stir fries, and not surprisingly, an “all you can eat” hot pot option.
The eatery is set in a long and narrow building with natural light only coming from it’s small frontage. The space is deceptively spacious as you could easily seat 100 here. The decor is fairly basic with a mismatch of furnishings and floor coverings. They’ve tried to give the middle section an outdoor feel with the use of fake grass and communal benches. The rear section is more traditional with its furnishings and tiled flooring, however, this place just lacks cohesion and is in need of an interior decorator.

Last night, I ordered the Chicken Satay. The dish was ready after a 10 minute wait and was average in presentation. Chicken breast was used with the meat being slightly overcooked. The vegetables used were fresh and crisp, and the inclusion of seaweed was a interesting touch. With subtle satay flavours without any real kick, I thought the dish was considerably oily.

My friend had the Udon Noodles and while she said the dish was nice, it was also oily.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed, although this place has been empty everytime I have walked past (including last night). The pricing represents good value with all of their mains under $13, however, the quality is commensurate of the price.
This place was OK for me and somewhere I’d unlikely return to.
