Is that all Swahili to you? Well it is! Faraja is Swahili for comfort, solace or consolation.
Faraja is located close to the beginning of King William Road as you head just out of the city. Set in a heritage styled stone fronted cottage, you’re greeted by a wide custom made timber door. The open place interior is spacious with magnificent high ceilings and natural light emanating from it’s two frontages. The timber furnishings and flooring combined with the creamed coloured walls give it that rustic feel. The walls feature artwork by a local artist which is great to see.
For breakfast, I ordered the Roasted Mushrooms, Gruyere and Spinach Omelette. The dish came out after a 15 minute wait and was nice in presentation. The omelette came as a classic stuffed half moon. The exterior was nice and firm, while the core was creamy and was in a state that was somewhere in between liquid and solid. The roasted mushrooms were moderately firm while the spinach was soft and delicate. The gruyere cheese was sweet but slightly salty, but there wasn’t enough of it to have any real impact. The bread was toasted to a nice golden brown and you could taste the hint of butter with every bite.

The staff were very warm and welcoming, and the service was above average. The efficiency in which things were done here had to be commended, and more importantly, it was done with a smile. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is average for this well to do area.
This place pretty much does everything right. If I could be critical about my meal, I’d say the omelette was slightly on the bland side, but other than that, it was an enjoyable dining experience.
