Hotel Tivoli is hidden away on the eastern side of Pirie Street. On the outside, it just looks like an old building with a towering apartment built behind it. The inside, on the other hand, is sleek, modern and stylish. The antlers hanging off the walls, the dark colour tones and furnishings, and the parquetry walls make this place really bold and masculine.
Today, I ordered the Wagyu Burger. The burger was ready after a 20 minute wait and was average in presentation. The wagyu beef patty was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. It was well seasoned, delicate and smooth in texture. The meat was literally melting in my mouth. An entire strip of bacon was included in the burger with all the fatty bits I don’t particularly like. It could have been made crispier as well. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the barbecue sauce was over applied. The bun was lightly toasted and it was firm enough to hold all the burger filling together. The dish came with a side serve of French fries which was perfectly cooked, nicely salted and provided in generous proportions.

My friend had the Salt and Pepper Squid. She said the squid was slightly over cooked.

The staff were friendly, if you managed to get hold of them. This place was definitely understaffed. There were a dozen people waiting behind the bar and only one person serving the customers. The atmosphere was relaxed with the lunch time crowd being a bit older. The pricing was reasonable and on par with other pubs.
The quality of the beef in my Wagyu burger was outstanding and this place certainly lives up to it’s reputation for providing good food. There were other areas that I felt that this place could improve upon, hence the average rating.
