Nic & Rocco – Norwood

I’ve been to a Nic and Rocco take away patisserie store before and was interested to eat at one of their dessert bars. The only difference between the 2 store types is the option of sitting down and having your dessert. The store at Norwood is still small and I thought it was strange that outdoor seating wasn’t available for the area directly outside their shop front.

Nic and Rocco have jumped onto the cronut bandwagon and are now offering 4 different cronut flavours. At $6.50, their cronuts are slightly more expensive than Jenny’s Gourmet Bakery. The presentation of their cronuts were inconsistent with some looking better than others.

Today, I ordered the Lemon Meringue Cronut. The croissant-donut pastry was way too oily and you could see the oil marks left by the donut on the plate. The meringue was soft and delicate, and the lemon icing in the centre was nice and tart. As you would expect, the layers of sugar inside the cronut gave it a bearable sweetness.

The staff were really friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed, but I noticed a majority of the customers only came in for macarons and took them away. I don’t believe they should be charging more than their competitors for their cronuts, particularly when the quality is below par. I wasn’t impressed with their take away store either so there seems to be a trend here.
