Colonel Light Hotel

The Colonel Light Hotel is set in a historical building on the western side of Light Square. The decor is relatively modern and there is plenty of seating both inside and out. The staff here are friendly and the service is above average. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed, mainly due to the lack of customers.

Today, I ordered the Chicken Parmi. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented. The schnitzel was small, thin and over cooked. The Napoletana sauce was rich in texture and had a subtle sweetness. The mozzarella topping was generous and had appropriate coverage over the schnitzel.

The salad was fresh as the vegetables were nice and crisp. The dressing used was a bland mayonnaise, similar to what you find in a Hungry Jack’s Whopper. The chips were thin and beer battered. They were fried to perfection, however, my dish had a lot of the throw away crunchy bits.

Not the best meal I’ve ever had and not the best pub I’ve ever been to. It’s not in the best part of town, and it’s history doesn’t help it either. Forget about the drive by shootings, I’ll get my shots (as in drinks, not bullets) somewhere else!
