BTS, for those in the know, stands for “Better Than Sex”. I noticed Better Than Sex were opening up a new store on Gouger Street and I was really pumped about coming here. I have a bit of a sweet tooth, and their delicious cupcakes are right up my alley. Well, maybe not my alley, but someone else’s! A friend and I walked past after lunch and we thought we’d pop in for a quickie.

Like their sister store, cupcakes and beverages are their specialty. Customers can choose to do the deed outside in public or inside where it’s a bit more classier. The beautiful stone counter top, the imposing chandeliers and the pink striped wallpaper is what Willy Wonka would live in if he owned a New York penthouse apartment. The seating at the back of the venue is quite close together and there’s not enough natural lighting coming through, but this is perfect for the most intimate of moments.

As far as choices go, there were a limited variety of cupcakes available, however, I was feeling adventurous and open to a little experimentation. Today, I chose the Carrie cupcake; attractive with nice curves and a bit heavy on the top. Just the way I like it! The meringue was silky and soft, and subtle in sweetness. The sponge cake was moist and it didn’t fall apart, so the experience wasn’t too messy. You know how it can get! But in less than 10 minutes, I got excited and then it was all over. I didn’t even get a chance to raise a sweat!

So is Better Than Sex, better than sex? Well, I probably gained 500 calories instead of losing 300. So the answer is no, but only by about 3 minutes!
