Competition for your dessert dollar is pretty tough on Unley Road, because only a few shops down from this one, is another fine dessert place. Located in a well to do suburb, Patisserie Jin is owned and run by a Le Cordon Bleu trained dessert chef. The dessert menu is limited, however there is a selection of cabinet desserts available. This place also specialises in making custom cakes for those special occasions. The decor here is sleek and stylish, with a bit of funkiness thrown in. With relaxing mood music playing in the background, the atmosphere is relaxed in the open plan setting.
Tonight, I ordered the Jin Signature Fondant. While the picture of my fondant doesn’t look as good as Penny’s, I must say it was really good. The texture was so rich and delicate, and the chocolate sauce hiding in the middle was a pleasant surprise. If you could describe chocolate heaven, this would be it. The accompanying ice cream wasn’t too sweet either and was a perfect companion to the fondant. For the $12.50 price tag, I felt the fondant could have been a bit bigger, but as I’m watching my weight, I let that one pass.
The staff were nice and friendly, and the service was pretty good. Price wise, they’re slightly more expensive than their competitors, but you are paying for quality. I’ve heard mixed reviews about this place, but my own experience was a good one. I will be back!
