Ruby Red Flamingo

For those who intend on eating here, no bookings are accepted at this Ruby Red Flamingo. If you come early enough, getting a seat shouldn’t be a problem.

The dining area is a combination of formal and semi-outdoor. We were escorted to the semi-outdoor area which consisted of a mismatch of decor. The glasses at our table were one of a kind, the dining plates were straight out of the 70’s and the dining benches looked like they were a DIY job.

There are no menus here. There were just 3 boards; one for the mains, one for the tapas and one for the chef’s specials. I agree with some of the other reviews. Looking at the menu was most awkward, particularly with the vision impaired moving right up next to the menus. The chef’s specials was located close to the ground, so there was a bit of movement just to see what was on offer.

The waiter then arrived to take our order. Impressively, he took our orders from memory alone. Tonight, I ordered the Paillard, which was the grilled veal with spinach and roast potatoes. The meals were ready within 10 minutes of ordering and all meals arrived at the same time.

My meal was well presented and was delicious. The veal was tender and perfectly cooked, and you could smell the smokey flavours in the meat. The potatoes had a nice crunchy exterior, and were soft and fluffy on the inside. The spinach looked like it had been steamed and tasted as it should. There was a fair amount of olive oil drizzled on my dish, but that just added more pungency to the dish.

The service here was really good. The staff were really friendly and even engaged in jovial conversation with us. The atmosphere was really relaxed and the meal was of a high standard and quality. The pricing was fairly reasonable and on par with other restaurants. I liked how their entrees were exactly half the price of the mains, and the proportion was also exactly half.

I don’t know what the others were complaining about. I’m guessing they’ve read these reviews and have lifted their game. I had nothing but a pleasurable and enjoyable dining experience here.
