Fiesta Yiros

Fiesta Yiros are a take away outlet in the Adelaide Central Plaza food court. They serve types of food; yiros, spuds, pides, AB and Mexican. For those who aren’t from Adelaide, an AB is yiros meat and hot chips smothered in hot chili, garlic and tomato sauce. AB’s are relatively new to their menu as it wasn’t around the last time I visited this place, and their small frier for the chips, looked like a new addition.

Today, I ordered the Lamb AB. It was ready after a 10 minute wait and came in a medium sized paper carton. For the $12.50 price tag, the quantity of meat and chips was quite conservative compared to other places. The lamb was well marinated, tender and juicy, however there were quite a few fatty bits, so it appears the quality of the meat wasn’t the best.

The chips were nice and chunky but poorly cooked. They certainly could have spent longer in the frier as the outside should have been crunchy, and the meat of the chips was firm instead of soft. The garlic sauce was nice but a bit watery. I like my garlic sauce nice and thick, and extra yogurt would have achieved that. The chili sauce they use is spot on. Not the Sriracha but a nice spicy American style chili sauce.

A nice attempt at producing the classic AB dish, however there are many other places that do it better. Probably the only place that serves this dish in the city, so a big thumbs up for that.
