Five Star Yiros and Spud is a take away outlet located in the City Cross food court. As their business name suggests, they specialise in Yiros and Baked Potatoes, and combinations of the two.

Today, I ordered the Yiros Combo Plate which consisted of lamb and chicken yiros meat, Greek salad and coleslaw. The dish also came with lightly grilled pita bread which was provided separately.

The lamb meat was well marinated, lean, tender and succulent. The chicken on the other hand was bland and fatty. I feel this is one occasion where they should take the skin off the chicken. The quantity of meat was generous. The garlic sauce was nice and thick with the perfect amount of garlic and lemon juice added.

The vegetables in both the Greek salad and coleslaw were fresh. The texture of the feta cheese in the salad was moist and creamy but not as firm as I would have liked. The coleslaw tasted a bit bland. I think it could have done with a touch of tangy mustard, some mayonnaise and perhaps some sour cream. The pita bread was nice when warm and quite difficult to eat after about 15 minutes.

I think this business was a bit modest calling themselves “Five Star” Yiros and Spud. It was really only 3 stars for me!
