Nikita’s

Nikita’s has to be one of my favourite Greek restaurants. This cosy little place holds exactly 56 people, but with 50 of us dining out, we basically had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Located on Unley Road, the restaurant offers all your traditional Greek fare. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is excellent.

Last night, we ordered the 6 course banquet. The meals came out not long after ordering and every dish was nicely presented. The dips were tasty and delicious. The Skordalia, in particular, was my favourite. The creaminess of the potato and freshness of the raw garlic was quite a treat.

The Saganaki Cheese was also really good. The goats cheese was nicely fried until golden brown and the zest from the lemon juice really balanced the dish. The Zucchini and Feta Cheese patties were also an experience. The zucchini was soft and delicate, and combined with the feta cheese, was so full of flavour.

The Dolmadakia was freshly made and delicious. The combination of rice, dill, mint and lemon worked perfectly with the tzatziki dip. The dish itself was served warm which was a whole new experience for me. The Greek salad was as expected. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the feta cheese and olives are what make the salad Greek.

The Fried Calamari was the best I’ve ever had. The calamari was fresh, lightly crumbed and perfectly cooked. The calamari was so tender and melt in your mouth. The amount of salt added was perfect. The Chicken Souvlaki was executed to perfection. The tender and succulent chicken pieces were beautifully marinated and full of flavour.

As the meal was about to end, the entertainment was about to begin. A belly dancer came into the restaurant to strut her stuff for a good 45 minutes. A mandolin player then played some subtle tunes until the end of the night. The dining experience as a whole was top notch. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
