Cafe One Two Nine is the downstairs bar area in the Strathmore Hotel. I reckon I’ve been here at least 30 times over the years and for all sorts of reasons. Farewell drinks, company paid lunches and boozy nights are the most common ones.
The decor is modern with warehouse style influences, and the service is pretty good. The pub is well known for their Stone Grill steaks. I believe it’s only one of three places in Adelaide where you get to cook your food on the patented stones. The food prices are on par with other pubs, but when you use the Entertainment Book voucher, the meals are more than reasonable.
Today, I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel with Gravy. The meal came out 15 minutes after ordering and the meal was nicely presented. The schnitzel was tender and succulent, and the chicken was of an acceptable size. The gravy had a nice thick consistency and the chips could have been fried a bit longer. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, but I don’t know about the bland mayonnaise that was used.

I’ve had many wonderful memories (and nights that I’ve later remembered through photographic evidence) at this place. The service is good and the atmosphere is relaxed during the day. It can get quite noisy on a Friday or Saturday night, but that’s how most pubs get during those times. I think this place is definitely worth a visit!
