I have a friend who only orders pizza from Duthy’s and swears that it’s the best pizza in Adelaide. As my pizza craving continues, it was time to put this place to the test.
Duthy’s is located on Duthy Street in the well-to-do suburb of Unley. Their pizzas are divided into 4 categories; seafood, traditional, gourmet and chicken. The pizzas come in 3 sizes; regular (9 inch), large (12 inch) and family (15 inch). They also offer pasta dishes with 5 different types of pasta and 8 sauces to choose from.

While many of customers are take away or delivery, there is the option to dine in with 2 communal bench tables inside and additional seating on the outside.

For dinner, I ordered the Duthy Special which consists of ham, pepperoni, onion, capsicum, mushroom, pineapple, olives and bacon. The pizza was ready after a 20 minute wait and was nicely presented.
My initial impression was that it had an adequate amount of topping which was evenly distributed over the pizza. Of course, once I lifted a slice from the box, there was a significant amount of oily residue on the base of the pizza.
The ingredient combination was a real winner. The sweetness of the onion, capsicum and pineapple were well balanced by the saltiness of the olives and bacon. The smokey flavours of the crisp pepperoni were heavenly and the tomato base had a lovely rich flavour which will beat most pizza joints. The base was thin and was consistent throughout. It was truly great pizza that had me begging for more.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The cost of a regular traditional pizza is $13 which is a bit pricier than what you’d pay in the western suburbs, but it is appropriate for the area. Having said that, the pizza was amazing and I will certainly be ordering pizza from this place in the future.
