It’s lunchtime again and I’m walking down Jetty Road looking for somewhere to eat. There’s two Asian fast food franchise stores fairly close to each other serving similar dishes. Both provide the option to dine in, but one presents their dishes on a plate rather than a paper bowl. Decision made! Wok In The Box it is!
Currently, there are 18 Wok In the Box stores in Adelaide, with each store offering a fusion of Asian cuisines. The menu is fairly straight forward with a selection of noodle, stir fry, fried rice and bento boxes to choose from. If you don’t like what’s on offer, you can select your own protein, noodle type and sauce to create your own customised dish.

The store itself is small with few seats on offer. You can sit on some bench seats along the window or outside on the pavement. While I sat out on the pavement to get some natural light for the food photo, I generally don’t recommend it as the amount of foot traffic walking past is somewhat annoying.

Today, I ordered the Pad Thai. The dish was ready 10 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented. The noodles were well cooked, however they were rather conservative with the chicken. The bean sprouts and green beans added a nice crunchy texture. The flavours were rather subtle and the colour of the dish could have had a more reddish tinge.

I must admit, I had low expectations when coming here. It is a fast food franchise after all. The cost of the Pud Thai was $8.95 which is roughly the same price as some of the nearby Thai restaurants.
This is a cheap place to go for some of your noodle dishes, but for a better Pud Thai experience, I’d be going elsewhere.
