The first Yum Sing restaurant opened it’s doors in Reynella over 25 years ago. Serving popular westernised Chinese fast food dishes, they developed and utilised a new food preparation and handling system that allows them to speed up the cooking process. With the Yum Sing Express store in Glenelg and a drive through store in Bedford Park, they’ve become the McDonald’s for Chinese food.

The Glenelg store is located in an alleyway just off Moseley Square. The place is neat and well presented, with a handful of seats both inside and out. There is a decent amount of natural light that flows through it’s frontage giving this place a casual relaxed feel.

For lunch, I ordered their specialty Satay Beef. The beef was lean and tenderised, and then lightly fried before being covered in satay sauce. I personally thought the satay sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but it was still acceptable. The bed of fried rice it was sitting was very basic with only a handful of vegetables present, but it was well executed for what it was.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. The cost of the Satay Beef and Fried Rice was $7.90 which turns out to be a cheap lunch. With banquet, combo and express meals available, I think they’ve taken the Chinese fast food concept to the next level.
