Bon Jing Filipino Grill

There are very few places in Adelaide where you can get Filipino food, but fortunately for us, Bon Jing comes in the form of a food truck. While their initial menu was a bit more extensive, they realised that offering too many items affected the consistency of their dishes. Taking a slight detour, they’ve moved into Filipino style charcoal barbecue dishes with two simple offerings; Chicken Inasal and Pork Liempo. I had won a free lunch from Bon Jing through Instagram and was going take up their offer at the Fork On The Road food truck gathering.

For lunch, I had the Chicken Inasal. This consists of charcoal grilled chicken leg fillet which is marinated in soy sauce, sugar cane, vinegar and their own secret herbs and spices. Each dish is then served with a side of yellow garlic rice and atchara, which is pickled green papaya and carrots.

The chicken was well marinated, tender and succulent. The meat had a beautiful smokey charcoal flavour which was absolutely heavenly. The rice was well cooked with nice individual grains. The sharp taste of garlic in the rice was well balanced by the sweet and tangy atchara.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. Customers would normally pay $12 for each dish which is well worth the cost and experience.

If the Chicken Inasal was anything to go by, I can’t wait to try their other dish on offer!
