Fresh Bites – Flinders St

Having already eaten at the other Fresh Bites store, I decided to pay the Flinders Street location a visit to see how they compared. The menu is pretty much the same with a selection of Vietnamese and Japanese influenced items on offer. Customers have the choice of bread rolls, salads, noodle salads, bento boxes and a selection of side dishes.

Located on the ground floor of an office block, this place is one step up from a food court. The place is neat and well presented with their standard use of bright orange and lime greens. The floor to ceiling windows allow plenty of natural light to flow through, and there is adequate seating in their own little alcove.

For lunch, I ordered the Crispy Roasted Pork Roll. The roast pork was well marinated and the meat was tender and succulent. The pork skin was perfectly crunchy, however the meat was fatty. There were some bits that I just had to throw out.

The coriander was fresh and the cucumber added a nice crunchy texture. The pickled carrot wasn’t as sweet and tangy as it should have been, however, the fresh chilli added nice heat. Once again, the egg mayonnaise and pate were missing, however, the use of soy sauce was an acceptable substitute. The bread was fresh and crusty, and of an adequate size.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The pricing was fairly reasonable for a place that wasn’t a food court. The Roast Pork Roll set me back $6 which is the standard price across the city. The most expensive dish on their menu is the bento box which comes in at just under $11.

The roast pork was too fatty, and some of the key ingredients were missing from the roll. You’re not going to get the authentic Vietnamese roll experience here I’m afraid.
