Savvas Yiros is a small Greek takeaway store located in a small shopping complex in the affluent suburb of Malvern. As their title suggests, yiros are their specialty with lamb, chicken, falafel and a meat combination available. Apart from that, there’s not much else with three types of salads, chips and a few plate dishes. Customers do have the option to dine in with a few tables and chairs both inside and out.

For lunch, I ordered the Lamb AB. Before I analyse the meal, I was pleased to see the meat carved freshly off the rotisserie and then fried on the grill to ensure the meat was cooked properly (kill step). They were also happy to serve my meal on a plate instead of a takeaway container.
The dish was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented. The lamb was well marinated and succulent, and generously provided. While the meat was lean for the most part, there were a few fatty gristly bits thrown into the mix. The garlic sauce was a bit runny and some parts of it tasted like a slightly sweet yoghurt. The chilli sauce was rather mild and could have done with some extra heat.
The chips were of a medium thickness and were cooked to perfection. They were nice and crisp on the outside, and soft and fluffy in the centre. Chicken salt was added and it was liberally applied.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. The Lamb AB set me back $13 which was a decent lunch serving. Their yiros start at $11, chips from $4.90 and salads from $4.50, which is on par with their competitors.
