Dulwich Bakery – Glenelg South

Based on the name, I would presume this bakery first started off in Dulwich. Known for their cakes, pies and pasties, they had the recipe for success, and have been able to expand to 7 stores across the state. The Glenelg South store is located towards the end of Partridge Street within a small shopping complex. On top of the products that their known for, they also offer a selection of bread, sweets, desserts, cocktail snacks and biscuits.

This bakery is considerably spacious and has a nice layout. With the front counter area to one side, there are plenty of seats for customers to enjoy their purchase. If you do choose to dine in, they will put the product on a plate, and even give you a knife and fork (not that I needed one for a donut). With floor to ceiling windows, there’s plenty of natural light that flows through it’s frontage.

Dulwich Bakery have released a new range of filled donuts, one of which was the Chocolate Filled Rocky Road. A good donut should have a flavourful dough, a fluffy and airy inside, and the topping and filling should be complementary. This particular donut was rather stodgy, and the chocolate filling was sweet enough to cause type 2 diabetes. The almond flakes provided a nice crunchy texture, however, the marshmallows were too firm and didn’t really complement anything else. This was nothing more than a blinged up donut with very little substance.

The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about all their products. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is reasonable. The cost of the donut was $3 which is about the same price you’d pay for a gourmet donut elsewhere.

This bakery has won awards and have many stores across the state, so this indicates they must be doing something right. I wouldn’t let an average donut put you off from coming here.
