What would a shopping complex be without a local dessert place? Located way up north at Mawson Lakes Shopping Centre is Indulge in Chocolate. The menu is simple and straight forward with a selection of crepes, fondues and sundaes. If you’re not in the mood for something substantial, they also have a small selection of sweets behind the front cabinet.

Today, I ordered the Salted Caramel Tart. The sweets came out 20 minutes after ordering which was an awful long time for items that were premade and already available in the front cabinet. When they finally came out, the sweets were presented on plates with chocolate drizzles. The slow service may have been attributed to the queue of orders before us and the time required to melt chocolate. Even then, the presentation wasn’t perfect as there were smudges on the drizzle.

The tart shell was firm and buttery with a perfectly formed crust. The dark chocolate topping had a strong flavour with a good balance of sugar. It wasn’t too sweet which complemented the decadent gooeyness of the caramel well. The milk chocolate drizzles probably weren’t required but I’ll take it anyway.

My friend ordered the Honeycomb Mudcake. Visually, it wasn’t a perfectly formed cupcake and you could see regions where the chocolate wasn’t properly applied. A taste of the cupcake revealed it was very moist and chocolatey, however, the texture was equivalent to packet cake mix from your local supermarket.

The staff were friendly but the service was very slow, particularly for what we ordered. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is slightly above average, although it depends on what you get. The cost of my tart was $5.80 which is higher than what I normally pay. Other places usually charge around the $4 mark, although they don’t give you chocolate drizzle. My friend’s mudcake set her back $5.20.

Their menu items offer a range of simple desserts that you can easily get anywhere else. It’s great if you want a chocolate fix while you’re in Mawson Lakes, but really, it’s nothing to write home about.
