Burger Club – Mawson Lakes

Burger Club is one of the last recognised burger joints in Adelaide that I’ve yet to visit, until today.

Located way up north at the entrance of Mawson Lakes Shopping Centre, this place offers a dozen different burgers distinguished by country (this excludes their temporary special burgers). Strictly speaking, if you’re going to organise by country, the Texan, Hawaiian and Philly burgers should be grouped with the American burger.

Customers select their choice of protein to go with the corresponding ingredients for that country and away they go. For those that don’t feel like a burger, there is a selection of 4 salads to choose from.

The decor is modern and well presented with nice clean lines and good colour coordination. Located on a prime corner position, there’s plenty of natural light flowing through it’s frontages giving this place a relaxed casual vibe.

The kitchen and counter area is located in the rear corner of the floor plan, away from the dual frontage. The leaves an L-shaped dining area which is considerably spacious.

For lunch, I had the Texan Lamb Burger which consists of club aioli, relish, onion rings, crispy bacon, salad and barbecue sauce. The burgers were ready 15 minutes after ordering and were nicely presented on circular white plates.

The lamb patty was the same diameter as the bun, however it was dry and over cooked. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp, which complemented the crunchy texture of the onion rings. The bacon was lean and not overly salty. The barbecue sauce was very sweet and too much was applied, so much so, it over powered some of the other ingredients. The bun was nice and fresh, and firm enough to hold all the ingredients together.

My friend had the Greek Lamb Burger which consisted of relish, tzatziki, roasted capsicum and salad. The sweetness of the capsicum and relish were complemented by the subtle notes of garlic from the tzatziki. The diameter of her burger bun was slightly larger than mine and she didn’t really have any complaints about the meal.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed, even with the busy lunchtime crowd. The cost of my burger was $13.90 which is the second most expensive burger on their menu. The cheapest starts at $9.90 and the most expensive is $14.90.

The overcooked lamb patty and the addition of too much barbecue sauce ruined what could have been a good burger.
