Lemongrass Thai Bistro – Goodwood

Anyone that has been down Rundle Street would be familiar with Lemongrass Thai Bistro. The store in Goodwood is the second of the same name with identical food offerings, although this place is about a quarter of the size. A quick glance of the menu online indicated that they were a bit more expensive than their nearest competitor, but I pleased to find they had lunch time deals.

The decor is modern and stylish with good use of browns and blacks. The tables were your typical cafe style, while the standard leather seating was quite comfortable to sit on. The frontage was equipped with sliding doors and floor to ceiling windows. Coupled with the atrium, there was plenty of natural light flowing through creating a very relaxed vibe.

For lunch, I had the Chicken Pad Thai. The dish was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented on a large circular white plate. My initial impression was that the serving size was huge. The amount of food on the plate was larger than my head, and my head is not that big!

The noodles were very well cooked and there was lots of it. They were nice and firm and not gluey at all. A generous amount of chicken was also provided. Chicken breast was used, and the meat was tender and succulent. I thought they were quite conservative with all the other ingredients. There were traces of bean sprouts and peanuts, but not enough to provide a crunchy texture.

The ideal colour of a Pad Thai is a brownish red. This dish was more red than brown which indicated not enough soy sauce was added. This was also verified by the dish tasting a bit sweeter than I expected.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the lunch time pricing was on par with their nearby competitor. The cost of lunch was $9.90 which is great value for money considering the quality of ingredients and serving size.

It was an average Pad Thai in my opinion.
