Glenelg Burger Bar

When we thought we’d seen enough burger joints in Adelaide, another one pops up. While there are other places that offer burgers near by, Glenelg Burger Bar is the only place dedicated to burgers along Jetty Road.

What makes this place different to the others? The meat is marinated using Middle Eastern herbs and spices. They also use fresh and locally sourced ingredients, but all places should be doing that. The menu is fairly straight forward with 5 burgers and 4 rolls to choose from.

The decor is trendy and well presented. The use of black and brown is quite prominent, and the low hanging light fittings give this place a bit of an industrial feel. There’s plenty of natural light that flows into this place and it’s well ventilated with it’s bi-fold windows. The place is not particularly large as it seats around 20.

For lunch, I had the Lamb AB. The dish was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented.

Most places that serve this dish use left over lamb that was cooked at least a day ago. The meat here doesn’t come from a rotisserie, but it is freshly cooked on the grill. The lamb was well marinated, tender and succulent, and there wasn’t an ounce of fat in sight. One of the owners told me that she painstakingly removes all the fat from the meat.

The garlic sauce used isn’t your traditional Greek variety but consists of yoghurt, garlic, egg, lemon juice and salt. It was rich and buttery, had a nice thick consistency and you could really taste the raw garlic. The chilli sauce didn’t really pack enough heat but it was sufficient. Overall the application of the sauces was adequate.

The chips were of a medium thickness and cooked to perfection. They were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the centre.

The staff were friendly and the service was very good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. The cost of the AB set me back $12.80 which is on par with their competitors and adequate to satisfy the appetite of one person. Considering the average cost of their menu items is $11, this is not a bad place for a cheap feed.

Verdict: The food here is cheap and the quality and attention to detail is exceptional. Definitely recommended!
