If it wasn’t for social media, I would have no idea that Spill the Beans existed. I’ve been following this place on Instagram for many months now and it’s always been on my list of places to visit.
Spill the Beans is located on what you would describe as a “collector” road out in Linden Park. The advantage of it’s location is that there is plenty of parking and there isn’t too much interference from busy traffic.
Open 6 days a week for breakfast and lunch, this quaint little cafe serves up simple and straight forward offerings with an emphasis on fresh and locally sourced ingredients.

Conveniently located on a corner position, this establishment is light and airy with natural light flowing freely through it’s oversized windows. The strategically placed low hanging light fittings and the open storage shelves give this place a very warm and casual vibe. The available space is optimally used with indoor seats for approximately 40 people and a few more outside.

For brunch, I had the Salmon Toast which consists of Harris smoked salmon and mixed greens topped with dill mayonnaise and lemon olive oil. The dish came out 10 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented.
The thin slices of salmon were covered in a subtly sweet dill mayonnaise, while still retaining it’s smooth silky texture and delicate smokey flavours. This was cleverly balanced by the saltiness of the capers and the slight tartness in the olive oil. There was an abundance of mixed greens that were fresh and crisp, making this dish very light and refreshing.
The bread was lightly toasted, however, I had difficulty cutting through the hard crust with a knife.

This place is fairly popular, and it appears most of their clientele are locals. During my visit, I could see the staff were flat out and my presence sought of went unnoticed. Having never been here before, I would have liked to have been given a menu and told you need to place your order at the counter.
The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is average. The cost of my meal was $15.50 which is what you would expect to pay elsewhere for a similar dish. Considering it was made from fresh and locally sourced ingredients, I’d say it was worth the cost. The cost of breakfast is between $6.50-$19.90, while lunch ranges from $10.50-$19.
