Scootz

Scootz is a small cafe located on the corner of Pulteney and Gilles Streets, towards the South Terrace end. Open only during the week for breakfast and lunch, their main clientele are nearby office workers. Their offerings are simple and straight forward with breakfast options, sandwiches, lepinjas, wraps, baguettes, hot dogs, door stops, and a main menu that is typical of your traditional pub fare.

The establishment is neat and well presented with fair amount of seating both inside and out. They have this good black and red colour coordination scheme happening, and there is plenty of natural light that flows in from their dual frontage.

For lunch, I ordered the Scootz Burger. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented. The beef patty was nice and thick, and roughly 200g in size. The meat was well marinated, juicy and perfectly cooked. The amount of cheese was adequate and perfectly melted on the patty. It was gooey and stringy which is just the way I like it.

The bacon was lean, however, it could have been a bit more crispier. The red onion had nice natural sweetness which was balanced by the saltiness of the bacon. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the mayonnaise was tangy and prevented the burger from being too dry. The hamburger bun appeared to be of the cheap variety. It was firm on the outside but didn’t quite hold all the ingredients together.

The staff were friendly and the service was fairly good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is fairly good. The cost my burger was $8.50 which a bargain considering its size and quality. The most expensive item on their menu is under $12 which is unheard of. It wasn’t the best burger I’ve had but it is certainly the place to go for a cheap feed.
