Having been to the Stax store on Waymouth Street, I decided to check out the King William Street store to see whether there was any difference. Located inside a large office building, this particular place appears smaller than the other store, although I could be wrong. The counter and kitchen is smack bang in the centre with the seating configured in a U shape. Their main clientele seem to be office workers who work inside the building.

For lunch, I ordered the Claudius Sub which contains oven roasted oregano chicken breast, short back bacon, mushrooms, shaved parmesan, lettuce and caesar dressing . Their full subs are 9 inches (compared to the 12 inch foot long Subway subs) and are slightly dearer in price. The chicken was precooked, and together with the bacon, was heated up in the microwave. The sub was made on the spot but was poorly put together (the styling in the photo was done by me).
The chicken was dry, over cooked and lacked flavour, while the bacon was lean, subtle in saltiness and could have been crispier. The mushrooms were soft and delicate, however, they looked like they came out of a can. The lettuce looked a little limp as though they were sliced a few hours earlier. The parmesan was sharp with a nutty taste, and the caesar dressing made the sub less dry, although it was conservatively applied. Made fresh on premises, the bread was surprisingly the highlight of the meal. It had a nice firm crust with a soft and fluffy interior. Bar the mushrooms, the ingredient combination was that of a caesar salad. Tried and true, but not very well executed.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing here, like their other store, is slightly overpriced. The cost of the sub was $10 which is more expensive than Subway and smaller in size. The bread is made without enzymes, although having said that, the sub wasn’t that good.
