I remember a time when the Worldend Hotel had a full pub menu. I’m not sure what has happened since, but during one of my most recent visits, I was shocked to find they didn’t sell food. It was only by chance we ate here today, because our original lunch destination was unexpectedly closed.
I was pleased to find that this place now has a food menu, albeit a very basic one. The only things that resemble a meal are the two types of hot pots and their hot dogs. The rest are really bar snacks that you can have with your drinks.

This place is typical of the pubs on the western side of the city. Known as a live music venue, this pub is popular amongst university students who don’t want to go too far for a drink.

For lunch, I ordered the Chorizo Dog. The meal came out after a 15 minute wait and was very basic in presentation. It was a fried chorizo sausage in a lightly grilled hot dog bun with absolutely nothing else on it. I had to add my own sauces which were available in a separate dining area. There was some consolation as the dish came with a side of chips.
The chorizo was the length of the hot dog bun and was of reasonably quality. It had a mild spicy flavour with a firm texture. There were bits of fat that were clearly visible, but I’ve experienced worse. The bun was fairly standard, and didn’t fall apart too easily. The chips were a chunky variety that was cooked to perfection; nice and crunchy on the outside, and soft an fluffy in the centre. The amount of salt applied was just right.

My friend had the Lamb and Vegetable Hot Pot. It didn’t look very appealing, but I was told it wasn’t too bad.

The staff were friendly and the service was efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. Most of the bar snacks, including our meals were at the $10 mark. My meal tasted ok but it was something I could have made at home myself. They should really bring back their old pub menu. You can hardly call what they’re serving now food.
