Roll’N On Bower

I’ve read good things about Roll’N on Bower, and it was my mission to have a Vietnamese roll here if I was ever in the area. The store itself is small with a handful of seats, but the place does have a warm and cosy vibe about it. The food offerings here aren’t extensive but they do focus on what they’re good at; Vietnamese rolls, cold rolls, salads, laksa and curries.

For lunch, I ordered a Roast Pork Roll. The roast pork was well marinated and provided in generous amounts. The meat was slightly on the cold side, as though it had been in the fridge, but the pork was still soft and tender. The pork was of a decent quality with very little fat and perfectly crunchy skin.

The coriander was fresh and the pickled carrot was sweet and tangy. The cucumber added a nice crunchy texture and the chilli provided excitement with every bite. The egg mayonnaise and pate added nice depth to the roll. The distribution of filling was perfect with a good combination of ingredients with every mouthful. The bread roll was a nice size however, it wasn’t crusty at all.

The staff were friendly and they looked genuinely happy to work there. The service was fast and efficient, and my roll was in my hands in less than 5 minutes of ordering. The atmosphere was relaxed with many of their clientele appearing to be nearby workers. The cost of the Roast Pork roll was $6 which seems to be the average price these days.

Verdict: Had the bread roll been crusty, this would have been the perfect Roast Pork roll.
