Banh Mi Cafe is located on Henley Beach Road in Torrensville, amongst many other shops and restaurants. Unlike other places that only sell Banh Mi (Vietnamese rolls), this place offers a good selection of traditional Vietnamese dishes. Whether it be cold rolls, vermicelli noodles, salads or rice, there is something for everyone here.

For lunch, I ordered the Roast Pork Banh Mi. The roast pork was provided in generous amounts, however, the meat was dry and bland, and some of the skin was hard enough to crack a tooth. The cucumber and coriander were fresh, while the pickled carrot and daikon radish provided a nice crunchy texture. The fresh chilli packed some heat, while the homemade mayonnaise gave the roll nice balance. The bread roll was nice and crusty, which is the way it should be. The star of the show was the roast pork, which was a big let down. It had all the elements of being great, but not today.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is reasonable. The Roast Pork Banh Mi set me back $5 which is a good price considering the amount of filling you get. They do pack in a fair bit of roast pork, however, the meat wasn’t the best. All there other mains are under $9 which is a bargain these days.

Verdict: Their Roast Pork Banh Mi was let down by the pork.
