I can think of some really good restaurants located inside hotels and then I can think of some not so good ones. From my own personal experience, they can be hit and miss, however, you can’t say for sure until you’ve actually eaten there.
Sq is located in the foyer section of the Mantra Hotel on Hindmarsh Square. The decor is tasteful and elegant with a nice claret cushioned feature wall as a focal point. The floor to ceiling windows provide an abundance of natural light while the furnishings are nicely spaced. The dining area extends to a lounge bar and a sidewalk cafe.
For lunch, I ordered the Open Wagyu Burger. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait and was very nicely presented. The beef patty was juicy and succulent, and cleverly moulded into the shape of the square bun. The salad was bright and colourful, and surprisingly refreshing. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, and all the ingredients worked in harmony. The chips were perfectly cooked and were of a nice thick cut. They were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The onion rings on the other hand could have been a little crispier.

My friend had the Classic Caesar on a Pide. She said the pide was over toasted but otherwise it was good.

The staff were friendly and the service was above average. Drinks were constantly refilled and plates were cleared as we finished. The burger set me back $17.50 which is the going rate for gourmet burgers at pubs and hotels. Not the best value for money burger I’ve ever had, but it was a very good burger and the quality was there.
Verdict: After coming here with low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised.
