Roll and Roll Sushi – Grenfell St

Anybody that has ventured down Bank Street would be familiar with Roll and Roll Sushi, however, if that store is too far to walk to, have no fear, there’s a store on Grenfell Street. I personally think this store is better as it is more centrally located and spacious. The point of difference with these sushi stores are their fusion sushi which incorporates western ingredients such as mustard, white wine, mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Not only do they provide unique and well presented sushi but they also offer a selection of bibimbap, udon noodles, ramen noodles, donburi, fried Japanese snacks and salads.

Today, I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sushi. The sushi was originally premade and put into a plastic container, but they were happy to put it on a plate since I was dining in. The chicken was firm because it was cold but it was still nicely crumbed. The sushi rice was soft and moist, and it was topped off with panko crumbs and their special mustard sauce. The panko crumbs provided a nice crunchy texture while the mustard sauce was mild and watery, and was really there for presentation.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was above average. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing for their sushi is a bit higher than what you would normally pay. Their meal options on the other hand are quite reasonable with all dishes under $10. My Crispy Chicken Sushi was $3.80 which works out to be 95 cents a piece. A sushi roll somewhere else would cost on average $2.50 which equates to 63 cents a piece. Each piece of sushi at this place is roughly 50% more expensive. Is it worth the extra cost you may ask? I say it is.

Verdict: One of the few fusion sushi places in Adelaide. Definitely worth checking out.
