Anybody that knows coffee knows that Exchange Specialty Coffee does exceptional espresso and filter coffees. It’s also worth mentioning that they also serve meals here, and for the basis of this review, I’ll be judging them on the food.
The store is located towards the east end of the city and is simple and minimalist in design. The concrete floors, the light timber surfaces, the low set bars and the navy and white colour combination give this place a sense of warmth. The floor to ceiling windows allow plenty of natural light to come, in making this place very inviting.
Today, I ordered the Reuben Sandwich. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nice in presentation, although the serving size looked rather small. The corned beef was generously provided as I counted 5 individual layers inside the sandwich. I did think the meat was a bit dry and possibly could have done with a bit more dressing. The sauerkraut was soft and stringy, and the flavour wasn’t too over powering. The Swiss cheese was beautifully melted, and the flavour combination of the sandwich was just right. The dark rye bread wasn’t too oily although it was a bit firm and required plenty of chewing.

My friend had the Chicken Sandwich and was rather pleased with the meal.

The staff were friendly and the service, at times, was a bit slow. While there was one waitress at the counter, she certainly took her time while other customers were waiting. The atmosphere was relaxed even during the busy lunch hour rush. The Reuben sandwich set me back $13 which was fair considering the quantity of filling and the fact I was charged a similar price elsewhere.
It’s certainly worth a visit here to try some of their coffee, but their food isn’t too bad either.
