Don’t be mislead into thinking this is a Japanese place because of the name, it’s actually Korean. When the Japanese occupied Korea between 1910 and 1945, they introduced kimbap, which is the Korean version of sushi. What’s the difference? The Japanese use vinegar in their sushi rice, while the Koreans use sesame oil. Anyway, I digress!
Sun Mi’s Sushi is located in the south east corner of the Central Markets. The menu is simple and it offers all your classic Korean dishes. Seating is limited with a maximum capacity of about 8 if you cram everyone along the bar stools.
Today, I ordered their Bibimbap and a serving of their Honey Soy Chicken. The chicken was available immediately while the bibimbap was ready about 5 minutes later. The Bibimbap came in a large bowl and was nicely presented. I was a bit disappointed that the egg wasn’t sunny side up. I like to mix the egg yolk into all the other ingredients. The dish as a whole was quite nice. The beef was lean, tender and well marinated. The pickled vegetables provided a nice crunchy texture and the rice was soft and fluffy.

The Honey Soy Chicken was delicious! Chicken thigh was used and it was lean, moist and full of flavour. I thought it was really good.

The staff were friendly, and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed among the busy central market crowds. The pricing is also very reasonable. The bibimbap was $8.50, while the honey soy chicken was $2.50.
Delicious home style Korean meals right at your doorstep in the Central Markets. I’d definitely come back to this place!
