Malacca Corner

Malacca Corner is a small Malaysian eatery on the eastern side of the Central Markets. The decor is basic and tidy with a no frills appearance about it. The place has menus, however, the ones most often looked at are the ones stuck to the door and wall.

Today, I ordered the Pad Thai. The dish was ready after a 10 minute wait and was average in presentation. The noodles were over cooked with many pieces stuck together. The vegetable variety was lacking with only carrots, onions and bean sprouts making an appearance. Surprisingly it was only the carrots providing the crunchy texture and not the peanuts and bean sprouts. The chicken was tender and succulent with lean chicken breast used. The dish was a nice reddish colour but it could have used a bit more fish or soy sauce to make it more balanced.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was average. The atmosphere was relaxed and their lunch time specials represented good value for money. The dish I had was $9.50 which equated to a satisfactory amount on the plate. Not the best Pad Thai I’ve ever had and I would rate it as just a bit better than something you’d get from a food court.

I’m in no rush to come back to this place.
