Dora’s Yiros is a Greek take away store located out in the Western suburbs on Findon Road. As the title of their store suggests, one of their main offerings is yiros, with over a dozen types available. They also sell a burger, seafood, salads, sweets and several authentic Greek dishes. The store itself is small, with most of their clientele being take away customers, however, there are 4 seats in one corner of the room if you choose to dine in.

Today, I ordered a Combination AB which consists of lamb and chicken yiros meat. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait and was average in presentation. Even before I sunk my teeth into this dish, there were 2 things I didn’t like. First of all, they used srichacha chilli sauce in my meal. It’s a personal preference, but I think this type of chilli sauce should only be used on Asian dishes and definitely not in an AB. Most places will use an American style hot chilli sauce in an AB because it contains mustard seeds that complement the other sauces quite well. The other gripe I had was their garlic sauce. While it had a nice thick consistency, it was more of a paste than a sauce. The thing that makes an AB special is the different proportions of sauces you get with every bite, however the sauce in this case was unable to blend in with anything else.
The chicken and lamb were well marinated, however, they could have spent a bit longer heating on the grill as there were several bits that were still cold. The lamb was lean and tender, while there were a lot of chicken pieces with fatty skin on them. It would have been good had the skin been crispy, but it was more a chewy rubbery texture. The chips were a nice thick cut and were sufficiently fried. Nice and crunchy on the outside, and soft and fluffy in the centre. I also noticed the chip to meat ratio was in favour of the chips. This is no surprise as chips are cheap and businesses are open to make money.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is average. It’s not necessarily a bad place, but I feel there are a few things that they could do better.
