Inside The Market Shed on Holland is a hidden gem of a place called the Little Orange Arancini and Pizza Bar. At this place, the ingredients used in their products only use the best locally sourced produce, and where ever possible, they are certified organic.
For those who don’t eat out much, arancini are fried rice balls coated with bread crumbs. The more traditional arancini are usually filled with ragu, tomato sauce, mozzarella and peas. To add a bit of variety to their offerings, this place offers several types of arancini, most of which are based on seasonal ingredients. Arborio rice, in the form of risotto, is commonly used, however they also use a variety of healthier grains such as quinoa, brown rice and pearl barley.
Today, I ordered the Arborio Rice with Beef Ragu Arancini. The arancini was deep fried to a golden orange colour, hence the name “arancini”, which translated from Italian means “little orange”. Inside the arancini were thin shreds of beautifully marinated beef mixed in with soft and creamy perfectly cooked risotto. The tomato sauce topping was rich and subtle in sweetness, and the parmesan cheese topped off a most delicious snack. This is the best arancini I’ve ever had!

I’ve yet to try their other products, but the arancini that I had was simply amazing! At $4 a pop for their arancini, it’s a delicious high quality treat at an affordable price. The ingredients are organic and this business helps support local producers, so it’s a win-win situation all round. This is my favourite place at The Market Shed on Holland and I can’t wait to come back to try some of their other products.
