There’s quite a few Thai restaurants down Henley Beach Road, and Yum Yai was one of those places that I had yet to visit, until today. Located across the road from Foodland shopping centre, this medium sized restaurant offers all your traditional Thai dishes. The decor inside is warm and cosy, although, it can get a bit dim, particularly during the day. Unlike other eateries in the area, this place offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
Today, I ordered the Thai Red Beef Curry. The dish was ready 10 minutes after ordering and the meal was nicely presented. The serving looked deceptively small, but it ended up being a good size. The curry sauce was full of depth and flavour, while the beef was lean and well cooked. The vegetables were nice and crunchy, and they had soaked up enough of the curry juices to make them irresistibly delicious. There was a single piece of bamboo shoot that tasted like it was burnt, and the rice was dry, like it had spent too long sitting around in the rice cooker. Thankfully, when you soaked the rice into the curry sauce, it wasn’t too noticeable.

My friend had the Chicken Pad Ped. She thought she was getting a noodle dish and was surprised when a stir fry came out. She said it was nice, but a little on the spicy side.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was fair. We came here for their $9.95 lunch deal which was quite reasonable considering the quality and portion size.
This place is a hidden gem on Henley Beach Road. Definitely worth checking out!
