I must admit I’ve always been reluctant to come to Sammy’s due to the overwhelming number of negative reviews. I came to the restaurant tonight with little expectation but was pleasantly surprised at how good this place was.

Sammy’s is set in one of the most ideal locations on the Holdfast Shores marina. Set over two levels between the ocean and the quay, the floor to ceiling windows not only maximise the amount of natural light, but they provide magnificent views of the ocean and sunsets (assuming you’re sitting on the right side).

Tonight, I ordered the Crispy Skin Atlantic Salmon. The dish was ready after a 15 minute wait and was beautifully presented. Usually, I prefer the salmon to be a little bit pink in the centre, but this fillet was cooked as well as it could be without it being pink. The fish was tender and succulent, and the skin was nice and crispy. The skin was definitely the highlight of the dish.

The chargrilled capsicum had a tasty natural sweetness, while the green beans, baby corn, asparagus and broccoli were nice and crunchy. The pumpkin mash had such great depth and flavour, it came a close second to the salmon skin. The salsa verde had a subtle zestiness about it which was quite refreshing.

I was lucky enough to try some King George Whiting. The fish was soft and delicate, and perfectly cooked in a light coated batter.

A friend had the Seafood Linguine. Apparently it was so good, my friend has already organised to come back here again.

The staff were friendly and the service was a step below silver service. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was a bit higher than what I would normally pay. My dish was $35.90 which is about $10 more than what I would pay at the pub for the same dish. Considering the rent at this location would be higher and that meals at neighbouring restaurants are verging towards the $40 mark, I felt their pricing was fair.

I truly had an enjoyable dining experience in this beautifully located restaurant. My meal was perfectly constructed and I left this place very satisfied. I have no doubt that I will come here again.
