Located in an alleyway on Anster Street, Proof is situated in a unassuming double storey building. The decor here is full of character and old world charm. The dim lighting, the golden reflective ceiling, the tie wearing chefs and the waistcoat wearing bartenders, really gave the feeling I was in a late 19th century English pub. Upstairs, there are seating and couches which provide ample space for relaxation. This extends to a cleverly created outdoor area that it built on top of a street. With tall buildings on either side, there aren’t million dollar views from the decked area, however, it is cosy and does have intimate appeal. If you’re here on date night and cuddling is not an option, blankets are provided to keep yourselves warm.
As a snack, I ordered the Mozzarella, Ripened Tomato and Basil Toastie. Ready after a 10 minute wait, it was nicely presented on a wooden chopping board. The fillings were nice but conservatively applied. The bread had a nice golden brown exterior and was perfectly cooked.

The staff here are friendly and accommodating, and the service is exceptional. In the outdoor area, the atmosphere is relaxed, and as a venue, this is a fantastic location with a good selection of drinks to choose from. The food here is well executed but over priced for what you get. My $8 toastie probably should have been $2-$3 at most. Great place for a drink, but maybe not so much for the food.
