Hong Fat BBQ

Hong Fat BBQ is a small restaurant located close to the Chinatown entrance on Grote Street. Their main specialty is barbecued meats, however, they offer a whole range of classic Chinese dishes. The place is basically decorated with seating for about 25 people.

Today, I ordered their signature Roast Pork with rice dish. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait but I felt they could have spent more time on the presentation. The dish looked like it was quickly thrown together. The roast pork was freshly cooked, and for the most part, the meat was lean. The skin was crunchy on some parts and not on others. It was a bit of a mixed bag depending on the piece of pork you ate. The rice came out of a rice cooker with some parts looking gluggy.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed even though it was a full house. My dish cost me $9 which I thought was fair value. This place wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t great either.
