Pure & Natural

Pure and Natural is a food place in the City Cross food court. With fresh salads and salad rolls on offer, you start to feel healthy just by standing in front of the place.

Today, I ordered the Tandoori Chicken Salad. This consisted of marinated chicken, mixed salad, tomato, cucumber, sun dried tomatoes and olives. Sweet chili sauce was used as the dressing. The chicken was succulent, the vegetables were fresh, and the combination of ingredients that I chose, worked quite well.

The service was OK, but the store assistant acted like she would rather be somewhere else. The price of the large salad was $9.50 which seemed a bit high at first, but a break down of the ingredients would suggest otherwise.

Cost of 50g of chicken breast: $0.75
Cost of buying tandoori paste, marinating, cooking and then slicing the chicken: $0.75
Cost of 100g of preprepared mixed salad: $1.50
Cost of 3 slices of tomato: $0.30
Cost of 3 slices of cucumber: $0.15
Cost of 20g of sun dried tomatoes: $0.80
Cost of 6 pitted olives: $0.50
Cost of a teaspoon of sweet chili sauce: $0.20

Estimated cost of Tandoori Chicken Salad: $4.95

If you include the cost of labour, rent, utility charges and some sort of profit margin for the business owner, the price seems fair.

The salads are pretty good here, it’s just a pity that I’m still hungry after eating one.
