Dessert Story

My mother would actually love Dessert Story. The sago and tofu puddings, the taro and bean desserts and the various jellies and ice creams are what Mum would have had when she was growing up. I’m not so sure about the bubble tea or shaved ice, as that appears to be a relatively new concept.

As for my dessert group, I think we’re more accustomed to the traditional variety. The menu they have at Dessert Story has some really nice pictures of what is on offer, but most of us were scratching our heads as to what was going to taste nice. In the end, we all went for something that we recognised or we thought would taste good.

I went for a relatively healthy dessert; the Fruit Salad Volcano. Essentially, it was fruit with fruit juice over crushed ice. It was really nice and it wasn’t too heavy. I didn’t feel bloated like I normally do when I’ve eaten something really rich and fattening.

The staff here were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. Being a weeknight, the place wasn’t too crowded or noisy. The atmosphere was rather cosy and relaxed. The pricing is fairly reasonable with desserts starting from $5 going up to around $12.

The desserts here really suit the Asian palette. Some of them are nice and some of them are more of an acquired taste. I was fortunate enough to have something good from the menu, however, one adventurous person in the group wasn’t so lucky. This place was more of an experience for me rather than a venue I would regularly go to.
